Biodiverse Cities: Policies, Plans, Projects and Co-Creation Processes” is the first book in the “Folia” series, a project by the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies at the Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI), developed within the framework of the National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC), funded through the European Union’s Next Generation EU program.
The European and National Biodiversity Strategies for 2030 place biological diversity at the heart of urban agendas, recognizing it as a key tool for addressing today’s urban environmental, economic, and social challenges in an integrated way.
In this context, Biodiverse Cities highlights how policies, inclusive planning, architectural interventions, co-creation practices, and active citizen engagement can support the conservation, restoration, and enhancement of biodiversity in urban spaces.
This volume represents an important achievement, the result of contributions from a wide and interdisciplinary group of authors and co-authors who shared their expertise to build a shared vision of more sustainable and resilient cities.
The book was edited by Maria Chiara Pastore, Annarita Lapenna, Luca Lazzarini, Israa Mahmoud, and Francesca Zanotto from POLIMI, a partner of the NbS Italy Hub.
