Join us on June 6th and 7th of June, in Castelfranco Veneto, Italy, for a dynamic gathering of experts, innovators, and policymakers committed to shaping healthier, more sustainable cities. This event brings together a diverse array of stakeholders, from government officials and local authorities to innovative SMEs and forward-thinking researchers.

Nature-based solutions are practical actions to protect, conserve, restore, sustainably use and manage natural or modified terrestrial, freshwater, coastal and marine ecosystems which address social, economic and environmental challenges effectively and adaptively, while simultaneously providing human well-being, ecosystem services, resilience and biodiversity benefits. While considerable effort has been invested in the researching, understanding, building knowledge and communicating about these solutions, there remains a prevailing belief that NbS are best understood through a first-hand experience or visit.

Across Asia, urban populations are concentrating in dense megacities where high-rise buildings dominate urban form and most urban residents have little exposure to nature throughout their lives. This has negative implications for the health and well-being of both human and non-human life. From a design perspective, new forms of living together are needed that require re-conceptualization of urban ecosystems and the role buildings can play in them. Led by Prof. Christiane M. Herr, the Future Ecologies Group at SUSTech engages in cross-disciplinary research that integrates empirical science, technology and design to support the development of future high-density cities in subtropical climates. The talk discusses the question of how high-rise buildings can host both humans and functioning ecosystems.

On the occasion of the World Biodiversity Day 2024 the National Biodiversity Future Center organizes the National Biodiversity Forum in Palermo on 20, 21 and 22 May. The days are dedicated to recount and celebrate the diversity of organisms and ecosystems on our planet.

On 10 May 2024 in Arezzo will be held the third edition of the Water Forum in Tuscany. The topic at the heart of the initiative will be the management of hydraulic and hydrogeological risk in the light of increasingly recurring extreme events.

NBSouth, a Polisocial Award Project, explores Nature-based solutions for Climate Adaptation in cities of the Global South. As part of project’s knowledge exchange activities, it presents a one-day knowledge exchange seminar on “Urban Nature-based Solutions for Climate Adaptation”, scheduled for February 13th, including morning and afternoon sessions.

On 25 January 2024, the conference "La Città BiodiversaMente Aperta: La biodiversità nella pianificazione, gestione e tutela del verde urbano" was held on how to combat the main direct causes of degradation of natural environments.

On 13 October 2023 will be held the Conference 2023 "The Nature-based Solutions for architecture and the city" at the IUAV University of Venice on the use of Solutions Based on Nature (NBS) to address urban challenges, focusing on hydrological management, biodiversity and climate impact. The goal is to spread knowledge about NBS and promote an interdisciplinary debate.

CLEVER Cities is excited to invite Horizon Europe/2020 NbS projects to Hamburg, Germany for a deep dive into the social and environmental impact potential of nature-based solutions. Interactive workshops, presentations, and panels will highlight enablers and barriers to co-creating community driven NbS, leveraging real-life examples from around the world. The primary event will take place Sept. 26th and 27th, with an optional welcome keynote on Sept. 25th, and local NbS site visits on Sept. 28th. Sessions will be hosted by a wide range of starting, ending, and ongoing EU projects.

On 14 and 15 September "INFO DAY Horizon Europe - European Partnerships: Calls 2023 in the co-funded partnerships Cluster 5 and Cluster 6 . The event is organized by APRE in agreement with MUR and MIMIT to introduce and Comment on the 2023 Calls for Partnerships co-financed in Cluster 5: Clean Energy Transition Partnership (CETPartnership) & Driving Urban Transitions to a sustainable future (DUT) and cluster 6: Biodiversa+ & Water4All - Water security for the planet.

Biodiversa+ is pleased to announce that its BiodivNBS Call for Transnational Research Proposals on “Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) for biodiversity, human well-being and transformative change” (referred to as BiodivNbS) is now open.

The final event of the project of national interest Establishing Urban forest based solutions In Changing Cities will be held in Rome on 16 June 2023.

On March 26, 2023, the Kick-off Meeting of nbs Italy Hub, the official opening event of the Italian hub dedicated to Nature Based Solutions, will be held at the Marconi Hall of the National Research Centre (CNR) headquarters in Rome.
