The 13th SUITMA Conference will take place from October 5 to 9, 2025, at the National Research Council (CNR) in Pisa, Italy, organized by the Research Institute on Terrestrial Ecosystems (IRET) of the CNR. Entitled “SUITMA from a One Health Perspective”, the conference aims to explore the crucial role of anthropogenic soils as key components in biogeochemical cycles, biodiversity conservation, global carbon sequestration, and climate change mitigation.

The scientific program will address important topics such as the balance between pollutant retention and release in urban and industrial soils, soil remediation and quality enhancement through innovative technologies, and the use of waste materials (compost, rubble, mine tailings) for soil construction and rehabilitation. It will also cover emerging challenges related to Anthropocene pedoclimatology, war-related contamination, and new emerging pollutants.

The conference includes oral and poster sessions, field seminars such as the Soil & Art field event, and technical visits to urban soil management projects and geologically and historically significant sites in Tuscany.

This event will provide a vital platform for researchers, technologists, professionals, and policymakers involved in the sustainable management of anthropogenic soils and the improvement of terrestrial ecosystem health, emphasizing the interconnection between environment, soil, and public health within a One Health framework.

Discounted accommodations will be available through partner hotels.
