NBFC launches the Biodiversity Gateway: Italy’s first portal dedicated to biodiversity

The Biodiversity Gateway (BG), a new digital initiative from the National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC), is online now. It is designed to build a bridge between the scientific community and society.

With contributions from over 2.000 researchers, BG is the first Italian portal entirely dedicated to biodiversity. The project is the result of collaboration between the NBFC and the National Research Council (CNR), which is responsible for its administrative and management aspects.

Its mission is to facilitate access to, comprehension of, and dissemination of scientific research outcomes, making this information more accessible and useful for everyone: researchers, policymakers, educators, citizens, and businesses.

Biodiversity Gateway offers a space for active participation, encouraging dialogue, the development of joint projects, and public engagement. It aims to be a reference point for those who want to contribute to the protection and enhancement of biodiversity. Through BG, users can access up-to-date, organized information on species, habitats, ecosystems, threats to biodiversity, and potential solutions. The content is presented clearly and understandably, within a dynamic digital environment designed to foster scientific outreach, collective engagement, and sustainable development.

BG promotes a culture of nature through articles, videos, infographics, educational resources, and interactive tools that raise public awareness about the importance of biodiversity and the urgency of its preservation. Ultimately, it serves as a strategic tool to turn research and innovation into practical resources for biodiversity conservation, monitoring, and restoration. It is an organized, accessible, and constantly updated platform offering digital solutions and services to support knowledge and the development of sustainable initiatives.
